Body position for solo white water paddling

Hold cursor on illustration to animate it

The drawing at left illustrates the body position for strong power strokes in a canoe designed for whitewater.

Note that the paddler is using his upper torso to extend the power stroke.

By bringing the stroke behind the center of the canoe (into the black area), the bow of the canoe becomes lighter while the stern becomes heavier. This makes it easier to steer the canoe. The paddler should also twist the upper torso to extend the power even farther.
