Sunset on the
Tundra

I've traveled tundra regions in Canada's Northwest Territories, but this photo was taken on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland. The harsh environment brings the tundra climatic zone farther south than normal here, which in turn provides an excellent habitat for the caribou. This photo was taken with a Leica R4 and a 560 mm Telyt lens. There was a slight bit of dust on the front element of the lens and in the atmosphere. The lens flare this created produced the warm golden haze seen here. |

Exposure is always a problem in this type of scene. I usually handle that by taking my meter reading with the sun just out of frame, the moving the camera back without changing the settings. |
