Delta - challenging travel

This is the delta formed by a small creek that branches off from the Williams River near the mouth. We chose this route because the water seemed deeper. The wide river was getting so shallow that we thought it would be a lot of work to escape the river.

Our first campsite on Lake Athabasca was a nice treat. In the morning, a small flock of Sandhill Cranes was wading in the shallows outside the tent.

Later, bald eagles perched on the deadfall in the delta.

It took us almost an hour of wading before we were able to find water deep enough for the canoes.
