River Challenges

Many of the rapids on the trip spilled over sharp ledges. Most were too shallow to paddle safely, but we were able to find safe passage along the sides. We camped just around the corner from this rapid.

As you can tell from the photo, we set a blistering pace on the trip! In truth, most days were fairly leisurely and we really appreciated the time to enjoy the scenery. We did a fair share of hard work and the boys appreciated any opportunities to relax.

The topographic maps we used on our trip omitted many of the rapids we encountered. This set was a surprise. Most of the rapids couldn't be run had safe routes along the side that let us line or wade the canoes. The footing on the hard rock ledges was quite good.
