Wildlife

On most days that we stayed at our sand bar camp on the McFarlane River, we'd see wolves passing along the trail behind our tents. Many would stop to watch we were doing.

This raven didn't seem to be intimidated by the larger size of the bald eagle. He's pecking at the eagle's tail feathers, trying to distract the eagle from a meal of fish. When the eagle turned around to chase the raven away, another raven swooped in and stole the fish.

We were fortunate to see many wolves on our last days on the river. There was a den located just over one of the hills behind our campsite and the young wolves would often come down to watch us.

In the evening we'd howl into the darkening sky before retiring to our tents. Without fail, we'd be rewarded by a chorus of wolves from several areas around the lake.
