In the summer of 2000, Rolf, Debra, Kyle and Brendan Kraiker headed off to the wilds of Northern Saskatchewan to do an "interactive" canoe trip. We're brought along a digital camera, a computer and a satellite phone. Every other day on the trip, we sent a written summary of the days events and some photos of the landscape and wildlife we encounters. The photos and reports from our journey were posted on the Canadian Online Explorer web site at http://www.canoe.ca/Adventure.

We'd like to thank the following people and companies for their support in making this project possible.

Glentel Inc. from Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada who are providing us with the Mitsubishi Omniquest satellite phone and air time so necessary for this project. The phone worked incredibly well on our trip. We never had a problem connecting and the transmissions of photos and stories from the computer went extremely well. On the few occasions where we used the phone in voice mode, it was amazing how clear the reception was. Visit their web site at http://www.glentel.com/

Apple Canada who provided us with a Macintosh PowerBook computer used to write stories, prepare photos and send email. The Mac proved to be extremely reliable and easy to use. The computer was very conservative in its use of battery power which was extremely important. The good folks at Apple were also extremely helpful, working with me to sort out various problems I encountered connecting to the phone. Visit their web site at. http://www.apple.com/ca/

Kodak Canada provided us with a digital camera and some Ektachrome 35mm film. We used the digital camera every day to gather photos to send via the satellite phone. The camera was very simple to use, yet provided extremely high quality images. Transferring the images into the computer was a very simple task that didn't take much time. Kodak Canada also hosted some content from our trip on their web site and held a contest to give away several copies of our book Cradle to Canoe. Visit their web site at http://www.kodak.ca

Sojourn - a Seasonal Experience who have provided us with incredible assistance over the years in gathering equipment and information for our canoe trips. Their friendly staff are well versed in the latest innovations for avid outdoors adventures in all seasons. Visit their web site at http://www.bconnex.net/~sojourn/

We'd also like to thank Steve Benoit at Georgian College, Ontario for his technical help.

Bill McLeod at North Star Computers in Barrie came through in a crunch for us when we needed a last minute connector which he was kind enough to provide.

And Grandma Hawthorne and Oma Nussbaum who graciously let us travel in the remote wilderness with their precious grandchildren.
